Volunteerism and Tutoring

Mercer students have long been active in the community on their own through student organizations, from philanthropy efforts of Greek organizations and honor societies to student chapters of service organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. In addition to volunteer opportunities, students eligible for Federal Work Study may be eligible to complete work study serving as a tutor at a local school or as an intern for a nonprofit organization.

Located in the Connell Student Center Lobby the Center for Community Engagement serves as a clearinghouse for volunteer service at Mercer, matching community organizations and agencies with student volunteers and organizations through volunteer fairs and placements. The Center also places interested students, including work-study students, in tutoring positions in Bibb County through the America Reads/America Counts Program.
